Lead - Electrical ( DRI Project)

Role Overview:

The incumbent will be responsible for end-to-end electrical engineering and project execution for Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) plant projects. This includes electrical system design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure. The role involves frequent international travel to oversee project sites and ensure compliance with global standards, safety, and timely execution. The position requires a technically strong, hands-on project leader capable of working cross-functionally with design, procurement, automation, and civil teams to drive successful project delivery.

Role & responsibilities

• Lead the design, engineering, and execution of electrical systems for the DRI plant (including transformers, MCCs, VFDs, HT/LT switchgears, and plant power distribution).
• Coordinate with engineering consultants, OEMs, and EPC contractors to review and finalize electrical system design in line with project requirements.
• Ensure timely procurement and delivery of electrical equipment while maintaining quality and cost parameters.
• Supervise installation, commissioning, and testing of electrical infrastructure and automation interfaces (PLC/SCADA).
• Collaborate with instrumentation and automation teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
• Monitor and manage project progress at all stages, ensuring milestones are met and deviations addressed promptly.
• Conduct site audits and ensure compliance with international safety standards and electrical codes (IEC/IEEE/IS).
• Drive the implementation of energy-efficient and sustainable electrical solutions within the DRI facility.
• Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, and assist in tender evaluation and vendor negotiations.
• Lead FAT/SAT (Factory and Site Acceptance Testing) for major electrical equipment.
• Implement project documentation protocols and ensure all electrical drawings, test reports, and manuals are accurately maintained.
• Support the project team during erection & commissioning, troubleshooting, and handover stages.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and maintain strong stakeholder coordination across departments and regions.
• Ensure adherence to budget, timelines, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelors or masters degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience in project execution for Gas- Based DRI plants.
• The candidate must be willing to undertake extensive travel to site locations worldwide.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
