Job Purpose:

To set, operate, and maintain CNC sliding head lathes to produce precision components as per engineering drawings and specifications, ensuring high quality and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Machine Setting:
• Set up and adjust sliding head CNC lathes for new production batches.
• Load correct programs and fine-tune offsets for optimal machining.
• Select and install appropriate tools, collets, and fixtures.
• Conduct first-off inspection and ensure parts meet dimensional accuracy.
• Operation:
• Operate machines to produce parts per schedule.
• Monitor machine operation and part quality during production runs.
• Maintain cycle time, tool life, and part consistency.
• Adjust machine settings in-process as needed.
• Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
• Perform routine maintenance (coolant top-up, cleaning, basic lubrication).
• Troubleshoot minor machine or tooling issues.
• Report major faults or breakdowns to the maintenance team.

• Quality and Documentation:
• Perform in-process and final inspection using micrometres, vernier callipers, and other precision instruments.
• Maintain production and inspection records.
• Follow quality and safety protocols as per company standards.
• Process Improvement:
• Suggest improvements to reduce cycle time and tool wear.
• Support continuous improvement and 5S practices on the shop floor.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in setting and operating sliding head lathes (e.g., Citizen, Tsugami, Star).
• Strong knowledge of G-code and CNC program understanding.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Skilled in using measurement instruments like micrometres, vernier callipers, dial gauges.
• Basic knowledge of tool geometries and insert selection.
