Qualification & Training

The role requires a Diploma or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Exposure to rubber compounding and material testing is important, and any formal training in this area will be an added advantage.

Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on laboratory experience after completing certification or training. Prior experience in the automotive industry is preferred, as the role involves working with automotive-grade materials and compounds.

Role Summary

The Lab Engineer is responsible for ensuring that only approved and tested quality materials are released to the production floor. The role involves executing laboratory tests, interpreting results, troubleshooting testing-related issues, and maintaining laboratory equipment. A major part of the job is making sure that all testing activities meet industry standards, customer requirements, and internal quality expectations.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on rubber compounds, materials, and adhesives to evaluate performance and properties


• Develop, review, and improve testing methodologies in line with industry standards


• Analyze test results and prepare clear, structured reports with observations and recommendations


• Ensure all testing instruments are properly calibrated, maintained, and operating accurately


• Follow all safety guidelines, quality procedures, and regulatory requirements during testing


• Maintain complete and accurate records of test methods, results, and deviations


• Assess material suitability based on durability, resistance, safety, and application requirements


• Support engineering and design teams by sharing test insights and technical recommendations


• Identify and resolve issues in testing processes, materials, or equipment that may affect result accuracy


• Stay updated on new testing technologies and practices to improve lab efficiency

Daily Tasks & Activities

• Attend daily morning meetings and review testing priorities


• Execute testing on automotive compounds and related materials


• Interpret test data and prepare laboratory reports


• Calibrate and service lab instruments as per schedule


• Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards at all times


• Record and document testing activities and observations


• Evaluate material performance before production release


• Coordinate with engineering and design teams for technical clarifications


• Troubleshoot testing or equipment issues (including button and slab testing)


• Conduct material validation testing as per annual plans, both in-house and through third-party labs


• Maintain and calibrate equipment such as Rheometers, UTM, and hardness testers
