Job Description

As a Lab Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the Chemistry and Physics laboratories by preparing and maintaining lab equipment, assisting teachers and students during practical sessions, managing inventory of lab materials, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the laboratory. Key Responsibilities: - Assist in setting up, cleaning, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory equipment in the chemistry and physics labs. - Prepare reagents/chemicals, weigh and measure them, prepare standard solutions, and assist in experiment set-up for students. - Assist faculty during laboratory practical sessions, demonstrations, and projects; help students in handling equipment, explain basic usage, and ensure safe practices. - Manage inventory of consumables, chemicals, glassware, instruments, monitor supplies, and raise requisitions when necessary. - Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols including chemical handling, disposal, use of protective equipment, cleanliness, and housekeeping of lab spaces. - Maintain accurate records/logbooks of equipment usage, maintenance, calibrations, and experiments. - Assist in basic repairs or coordinate with service providers for instrument repair/maintenance. - Disassemble and clean experiments post-session, and restore the lab to a ready state for the next use. - Collaborate with faculty/staff for lab improvements, ordering new instruments, and ensuring the labs meet academic standards. Qualifications & Skills: Essential: - Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in Chemistry, Physics, or related science discipline (or equivalent). - Familiarity with common chemistry and physics laboratory equipment and procedures. - Good organizational and recordkeeping skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to schedules. - Strong commitment to safety and cleanliness in a laboratory environment. - Effective communication skills to assist students and faculty. - Basic computer skills for maintaining records, inventory, etc. Desirable: - Bachelor's degree (B.Sc) in Chemistry or Physics. - Previous experience working as a lab assistant/technician in an educational institution. - Experience in handling advanced instruments. - Knowledge of chemical safety regulations and waste disposal norms. Experience: - 2-7 years of relevant lab experience preferred. - Experience assisting in practical science teaching labs is a plus.
