IBM Power Engineer- AIX Specialist

Role & responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain IBM Power Systems (Power8, Power9, Power10) running AIX and VIOS.
• Manage LPAR creation, configuration, and resource allocation using HMC and PowerVC.
• Perform AIX OS upgrades, patching, and migration using tools like NIM, alt_disk_copy, and mksysb.
• Implement and manage PowerHA or Cluster Aware AIX (CAA) for high availability and failover configurations.
• Administer storage integration using SAN/NAS, NPIV, VIO mapping, and LUN provisioning.
• Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Maintain security compliance via user/group management, RBAC, and patch validation.
• Develop automation scripts (e.g., shell, Python, or Ansible) for repetitive system tasks.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support for production systems and participate in DR drills.
• Collaborate with network, storage, and database teams for infrastructure optimization.

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong expertise in AIX 7.1 / 7.2 / 7.3 and PowerVM virtualization.
• Hands-on experience with HMC, NIM, PowerVC, and VIOS management.
• Proficiency in filesystem and volume management (JFS2, LVM, alt_disk_install).
• Experience with PowerHA SystemMirror, TSM / Spectrum Protect, and backup automation.
• Understanding of firmware, microcode updates, and capacity on demand (CoD) features.
• Knowledge of performance monitoring tools (nmon, topas, vmstat, iostat).
• Scripting knowledge: ksh/bash, Python, Ansible preferred.
• Familiarity with Linux on Power (RHEL/SLES) environments is a plus.
• IBM Certified System Administrator AIX
• IBM Certified Specialist Power Systems with AIX
• Experience in migration from legacy AIX to Power10 platforms
• Exposure to IBM Cloud PowerVS or hybrid AIX environments
