HSE Role

An HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) officer develops, implements, and monitors safety policies to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards. Key duties include conducting risk assessments, performing workplace inspections, creating and delivering safety training, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. They are responsible for creating a safe work environment and promoting a culture of safety within an organization.

Core responsibilities

  • Policy and procedure: Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure legal compliance and high safety standards.
  • Risk management: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop action plans to mitigate them.
  • Inspections and audits: Regularly inspect work areas, equipment, and processes to ensure they meet safety regulations and company policies.
  • Training and communication: Provide safety training to employees and management, and communicate safety information, including incident reports and learning points.
  • Incident investigation: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Compliance monitoring: Stay updated on relevant health, safety, and environmental laws and ensure the organization complies with them.
  • Reporting: Prepare and maintain records of incidents, inspections, and safety data for reporting and analysis.
  • Environmental protection: Monitor and ensure the safe disposal of waste and hazardous substances.

Fire Officer Role

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate firefighting operations during emergency situations.
  • Ensure the safety of firefighting personnel and the general public.
  • Implement and enforce fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular training and drills for firefighting teams.
  • Inspect firefighting equipment and ensure readiness.
  • Investigate causes of fires and prepare detailed reports.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services and agencies.
  • Manage fire stations and administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or equivalent in HSE; degree in fire science or related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Fire Officer from a recognized authority and HSE Certification
  • Several years of experience as a firefighter, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Thorough knowledge of firefighting techniques and safety protocols.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
