Role & responsibilities

Position Title: HR Business Partner R&D

Department:

1. Role Summary

The HR Business Partner for the Research & Development Centre will act as the strategic HR advisor supporting scientists, technical teams, analytical functions, and support groups. The role focuses on driving people strategies, capability building, performance excellence, and creating a high-engagement culture aligned with R&D priorities such as innovation, compliance, and speed-to-market.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic HR Partnership

  • Partner with R&D leadership to understand talent needs and create HR strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Support organizational design, workforce planning, and capability building for scientific and technical teams.
  • Drive change management initiatives within the R&D centre.

B. Talent Management

  • Lead recruitment for scientific, analytical, formulation, API, packaging development and related functions.
  • Ensure effective onboarding and integration of R&D talent.
  • Support succession planning for critical R&D roles and identify high-potential talent.

C. Performance Management

  • Drive annual and mid-year performance review cycles for R&D teams.
  • Facilitate goal setting aligned with project and pipeline targets.
  • Coach managers on performance development plans, feedback, and productivity improvement.

D. Employee Engagement & Culture Building

  • Implement engagement initiatives tailored to scientists and technical professionals.
  • Conduct skip-level meetings, pulse surveys, and action planning.
  • Strengthen site culture around innovation, collaboration, compliance, and quality.

E. Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Handle grievance management and ensure positive employee relations.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, audit requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain documentation and support HR audits within the R&D centre.

F. Compensation & Benefits

  • Support annual salary revisions, promotions, and retention strategies for niche scientific talent.
  • Participate in benchmarking for R&D roles and compensation guidelines.

3. Required Qualifications & Experience

  • MBA / PGDM in HR or relevant specialization.
  • 2–10 years of HRBP experience, preferably within

    pharma/biotech/R&D/chemical

    industries.
  • Strong understanding of R&D functions such as Formulation Development, Analytical Development, API R&D, Packaging Development, Regulatory, and Project Management.

4. Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong stakeholder management with ability to partner with senior scientific leaders.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex and dynamic R&D environment.
  • Knowledge of HR processes, labour laws, and HR analytics.
  • High level of integrity, empathy, and confidentiality.

5. Work Environment

  • Fast-paced and innovation-driven R&D environment.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with QA, QC, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Supply Chain.
