It also contributes to environmental sustainability and resilience by using plants to manage soil erosion, improve air quality, and mitigate disasters like floods and heatwaves. In commercial projects, this includes creating functional green spaces like building-integrated vegetation systems, while in residential projects it involves creating aesthetically pleasing and well-maintained gardens and landscaping.
Horticulturists enhance the yield, taste and size of plants. They perform disease and pest investigations and try to reproduce plant life. They also research subjects such as landscaping, gardening, plant breeding, plant biochemistry and the production of crops. A horticulturist may also assist people in revitalizing degraded land.
