Hiring Pre-Underwriter(Us Mortgage)

Role Overview:

The Pre-Underwriter (Pre-UW) is responsible for conducting the initial review of residential mortgage loan files prior to underwriting. The role ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with investor and regulatory guidelines. The Pre-UW acts as a quality checkpoint before loans move to the underwriting stage, reducing errors and ensuring faster loan decisions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in US Residential Mortgage (Pre-Underwriting and Loan Processing).- Mandatory
• Strong knowledge of mortgage documentation, investor guidelines (FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA), and compliance requirements.
• Ability to analyze credit, income, and asset documentation with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in LOS (Loan Origination Systems) such as Encompass, Calyx, or similar.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review loan files for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to underwriting.
• Validate borrower documentation including income, assets, employment, credit, and liabilities.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and investor (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA) guidelines.
• Identify missing or inconsistent documentation and coordinate with processors/loan officers for resolution.
• Perform preliminary income calculations and debt-to-income (DTI) analysis.
• Evaluate credit reports, identify red flags, and highlight potential risk factors.
• Review appraisal and title documents for initial compliance checks.
• Prepare detailed notes for the underwriter to facilitate faster decision-making.
• Work closely with the Processing and Underwriting teams to ensure smooth workflow.
• Maintain adherence to internal SLAs, policies, and quality standards.
