Merchant Financial Services | Merchant Tax Reporting

Job Summary:

The Tax Compliance Liaison Specialist serves as the primary point of contact between our U.S. customer base and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This role ensures compliance with federal tax reporting requirements by validating Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) and managing related processes. The position also handles tax liens, levies, and escheatment activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between U.S. customers and the IRS regarding TIN accuracy and compliance.
  • Validate and maintain accurate Tax Identification Numbers for all merchant accounts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of processing volumes to the IRS as required for merchant acquirers.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies related to TIN mismatches or IRS notifications.
  • Manage tax lien and levy processes, including communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversee escheatment activities in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth execution of compliance-related tasks.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and audit trails for all tax-related activities.
  • Stay updated on IRS regulations and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience:

    • 2-4 years of experience in tax compliance, financial services, or merchant acquiring industry.
    • Familiarity with IRS reporting requirements and TIN validation processes.
  • Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and relevant compliance tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience handling tax liens, levies, and escheatment processes.
  • Knowledge of merchant acquiring operations and payment processing industry.
