Job Summary

The Desktop Engineer is responsible for the creation, implementation and maintenance of technical solutions for the standard BDO PC environment, with a focus on application repackaging. The Desktop Engineer is also involved with the support and maintenance of the workstation image, PC environment management systems operation and Office365 products and technologies. This role is charged with providing analysis and feedback regarding process and system improvements in desktop automation and management technologies. Additionally, the Desktop Engineer maintains and assesses for continual improvements, a secure PC environment through the effective implementation of desktop security solutions and policies.

Job Duties

  • Independently designs and implements the repackaging of third party or BDO proprietary software to ensure consistent installation with minimal to no user interruption
  • Collaborates with team members in the development of utilities and/or tools to improve efficiency of internal and external users with regard to workstation related tasks
  • Designs and maintains the BDO standard PC operating system image and upgrade/migration toolset in collaboration with Desktop Engineering, IT Operations management and senior engineers
  • Evaluates endpoint vulnerabilities and works with the Desktop Engineering team to deploy appropriate remediations.
  • Evaluates business rules to determine the most efficient manner to meet end-user requirements
  • Evaluates new version releases from vendors to determine their compatibility with the existing BDO environment
  • Recommends modifications or workarounds, if necessary, to incorporate new versions into the existing BDO environment
  • Creates technical documentation to assist with Quality Assurance code review
  • Collaborates with the Quality Assurance team to ensure thorough and complete testing and remediation of technical solutions
  • Collaborates with other IT teams to ensure all BDO applications function properly in desktop environment
  • Assists with support and maintenance of software delivery architecture and Service Desk solutions at the direction of Desktop Engineering management
  • Remains current on latest technologies and emerging trends in area of expertise, and recommends ways to utilize new technologies in the BDO environment
  • Serves as Level III resource for the Service Desk, as needed
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education:

  • HS diploma/GED, required (or local equivalent)
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Sciences, Information Systems or other equivalent field, preferred

Experience:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in technical support, required
  • One (1) or more years of experience with software development or coding solutions, preferred
  • One (1) or more years of experience with enterprise workstation management solutions, preferred
  • Experience as a desktop engineer, preferred
  • License/Certifications:

  • CompTIA Security+ Certified Professional certification, preferred
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) credential, preferred

Software:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel, required
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows, required
  • Experience with Microsoft .NET development, preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft C# development, preferred
  • Experience with Citrix XenDesktop and/or XenApp, preferred
  • Experience with the following products and/or technologies, preferred:
  • Wise Package Studio
  • Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
  • CarbonBlack Application Control Solution
  • Microsoft SQL
  • Microsoft Active Directory
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Scripting tools, such as VBScript, Wisescript and/or Powershell

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of standard applications and all aspects of desktop environments
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge and understanding of cryptography technologies, including encryption, key management and secure protocols
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge and understanding of networking and communication technologies, including TCP/IP protocol, remote access methods, firewalls and wireless protocols
