Head- BTG Erection (Thermal Projects- 6X600 MW)

Purpose - Why does this role exist?

The Head BTG Erection is responsible for leading the erection, installation, and commissioning of Boiler, Turbine, and Generator systems across multiple units of the thermal power plant. This role ensures that all BTG-related activities are executed in accordance with project schedules, OEM specifications, safety standards, and quality benchmarks. The incumbent will manage contractors, interface with OEMs, and coordinate with internal departments to ensure successful commissioning of all units.

Key Result Areas (Key Performance Indicators)

• BTG Erection Execution

  Oversee erection of pressure parts, rotary equipment, auxiliaries, and piping systems for Boiler, Turbine, and Generator packages.

• Project Schedule Adherence

  Ensure BTG erection milestones are achieved as per L2/L3 schedules using tools like Primavera P6 or MS Project.

• OEM Coordination

  Interface with Original Equipment Manufacturers (e.g., BHEL, Siemens, GE) for technical clarifications, site support, and commissioning protocols.

• Quality Assurance & Inspection

  Ensure compliance with ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), QAPs (Quality Assurance Plans), and welding procedures.

• Safety & Statutory Compliance

  Enforce safety protocols including LOTO (Lockout-Tagout), permit systems, and statutory inspections (IBR, CEA, Factory Inspectorate).

• Resource & Contractor Management

  Manage manpower, cranes, tools & tackles, and erection contractors to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.

• Commissioning Readiness

  Ensure systems are hydro-tested, flushed, and ready for steam blowing, rolling, synchronization, and load trials.

• Documentation & Reporting

  Maintain erection logs, daily progress reports, punch lists, and commissioning dossiers.

Educational Background and Work Experience

• Educational Background

  :Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

• Work Experience

  :Minimum 20 to 25 years of experience in BTG erection and commissioning in large-scale thermal power projects (preferably a 500 MW units), with hands-on experience in multi-unit execution.

Skills Required

• Expertise in BTG erection methodologies including drum lifting, turbine deck alignment, generator stator installation
• Familiarity with OEM erection manuals and commissioning protocols
• Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and AutoCAD
• Strong leadership and team coordination skills
• Knowledge of statutory codes: IBR, CEA, Factory Act
• Excellent troubleshooting and decision-making abilities
