Job Summary:

The Senior Chemist - R&D will lead formulation development, optimization, and scale-up of skin care, cosmetic, and oral care products This role requires deep technical expertise in cosmetic chemistry, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally to ensure product efficacy, stability, and regulatory compliance

Key Responsibilities:

Formulation Development:

Lead the R&D of new and innovative skin care, cosmetic, and oral care formulations Modify and optimize existing formulations for performance, cost, and manufacturability Ensure formulations meet client specifications, regulatory standards (eg ISO, FDA, COSMOS, etc), and sustainability goals

Testing & Validation:

Conduct stability, compatibility, and performance testing Collaborate with QC/QA to ensure product safety and compliance Document all R&D processes, including batch records, SOPs, and technical reports

Scale-Up & Production Support:

Work closely with manufacturing teams to transition lab-scale formulations to full production Troubleshoot production issues related to raw materials, processing, or final product quality

Innovation & Market Trends:

Stay updated on emerging ingredients, technologies, and industry trends Recommend new product concepts aligned with market demands

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Liaise with marketing, sales, and regulatory teams to support product claims and certifications Assist in client presentations and technical discussions

Qualifications & Skills:

Hard Skills:

Strong expertise in cosmetic chemistry, emulsion systems, surfactants, and active ingredients Proficiency in formulating skin care (creams, serums, lotions), cosmetics (makeup, colorants), and/or oral care products Experience with stability testing, rheology, and analytical techniques (HPLC, FTIR, etc) Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, GMP, etc) Familiarity with private label manufacturing processes

Soft Skills:

Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking Excellent communication (written & verbal) for technical reporting and client interactions Project management skills to handle multiple R&D projects Team collaboration and leadership abilities

Education & Certifications:

Bachelor s/Master s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field Additional certifications (eg SCC, IFSCC, or regulatory training) are a plus

Preferred Experience:

5+ years in R&D formulation within skin care, cosmetics, or oral care Experience in private label manufacturing is highly desirable Proven track record of successful product development from lab to market
