JOB DESCRIPTION GRAVURE PRINTING OPERATOR Introduction A gravure printing operator is responsible for operating and maintaining gravure printing presses, which are used for high-volume printing jobs such as packaging materials, magazines, catalogues, and decorative materials. Their job description typically includes: (a) Machine Operation : Operating gravure printing presses to produce printed materials according to job specifications. This involves loading paper or other substrates into the press, setting up the press for printing, adjusting settings such as ink flow, pressure, and speed, and monitoring the printing process to ensure quality and consistency. (b) Quality Control : Inspecting printed materials for defects such as smudges, streaks, or colour inconsistencies, and making adjustments to the press as needed to maintain quality standards. This may involve troubleshooting printing issues and making minor repairs or adjustments to the press machinery. (c) Maintenance : Performing routine maintenance tasks on gravure printing presses, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. They may also be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing mechanical issues that arise during operation. (d) Safety : Adhering to all safety procedures and guidelines while operating printing equipment and handling printing materials. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, following safe operating practices, and ensuring that the work area is clean and organized to prevent accidents or injuries. (e) Communication : Communicating with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments to coordinate printing jobs, discuss job specifications, and report any issues or concerns that arise during the printing process. They may also be responsible for maintaining production records and documentation related to printing jobs. (f) Continuous Improvement : Identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains in the printing operation, such as optimizing print settings, reducing waste, or implementing new technologies or techniques to improve print quality and productivity.
