GIS Specialist - Farm Management Systems

As an experienced GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for developing a multi-layered geospatial mapping system for an interactive farm-management dashboard. Your key responsibilities will include: - Geospatial Data Layer Development: - Creating and integrating three primary geospatial layers: - Land Parcels: Property boundaries and field divisions - Vegetation Status: Real-time crop health and vigor mapping - Soil Types: Soil classification and characteristics mapping - Ensuring all layers are clean, well-structured, and ready for production use - GIS Software Implementation: - Working with QGIS and/or ArcGIS for desktop geospatial processing - Exporting data in formats compatible with web mapping frameworks (Leaflet, Mapbox, or similar) - Ensuring seamless integration between desktop GIS and web mapping stacks - Map Design & User Experience: - Designing intuitive symbology and styling for clear differentiation of vegetation vigor levels, soil classification types, and land parcel boundaries - Balancing visual clarity with information density - Enabling smooth zoom functionality from farm-level overview to individual field detail - Data Architecture & Integration: - Structuring attribute tables to support future integration with IoT sensors, farm machinery telemetry, and crop health monitoring systems - Preparing data schemas for dashboard widgets monitoring crop health metrics, water usage tracking, and input application tracking - Providing a whole-farm operational overview - Knowledge Transfer: - Conducting brief hand-off sessions and documenting project organization and layer structure - Training internal team members on updating and maintaining layers independently - Providing clear guidelines for adding new data sources Required Qualifications: - Technical Skills: - Proficiency in QGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro - Experience with web mapping frameworks such as Leaflet, Mapbox, OpenLayers, or ArcGIS Online - Strong understanding of geospatial data formats, coordinate systems, spatial databases, and data visualization principles - Experience with geoprocessing and spatial analysis - Domain Experience: - Previous work on agricultural, forestry, or environmental monitoring dashboards - Experience integrating remote sensing data and understanding vegetation indices and soil mapping - Familiarity with precision agriculture concepts - Soft Skills: - Strong problem-solving and spatial reasoning abilities - Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy - Ability to communicate complex geospatial concepts to non-technical stakeholders - Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's/Master's degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Geography, or related field - Experience with Python scripting for GIS automation, knowledge of GPS/GNSS field data collection, familiarity with IoT sensor data integration, and experience with agricultural data sources - Portfolio demonstrating farm management or environmental monitoring projects In addition to the above, the company is focused on building an interactive farm-management dashboard and seeking an experienced GIS Specialist to develop the geospatial mapping system.,
