Role Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Freelance Backend Java Engineer to design, build, and maintain platform-level microservices used across multiple applications. This role is heavily backend-focused and is ideal for engineers who have spent the majority of their career building scalable backend services using Java and cloud technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and build backend microservices used by multiple applications

• Develop RESTful web services using Java 11

• Own backend service design including APIs, data models, and service contracts

• Build new platform services based on incoming requirements

• Enhance and maintain existing services as the platform evolves

• Ensure services are scalable, reliable, and reusable across applications

• Collaborate with platform and product teams to understand service requirements

• Follow best practices for microservices architecture and backend engineering

• Participate in design reviews and technical discussions

• Support deployment and operation of services on AWS

Required Skills and Experience

• 8+ years of backend development experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Java 11

• Strong experience building RESTful web services

• Deep understanding of backend and microservices architecture

• Experience working in platform or shared services teams

• Hands-on experience with AWS services

• Strong understanding of API design and backend service lifecycle

• Experience working in environments where backend work represents at least 80 percent of the role

• Limited frontend exposure acceptable but not required
