Roles and Responsibilities

Job Title: EHS Manager

Department: Environment, Health & Safety

Reporting To: Head Operations

Location: [Jadcherla, Polepally Village,Mahabubnagar District}

Job Purpose:

To ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to Environment, Health, and Safety in an API manufacturing facility, implement robust EHS systems, promote a safe workplace culture, and drive sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and central EHS regulations (e.g., Factories Act, GPCB/SPCB, CPCB, Pollution Control Boards, etc.).
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies for obtaining and renewing EHS-related licenses, consents, and approvals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes affecting the pharmaceutical industry.

2. Environment Management

  • Oversee wastewater treatment plant (ETP/STP) operations and ensure compliance with discharge norms.
  • Manage air emissions, hazardous waste, solid waste, and ensure safe disposal as per statutory norms.
  • Drive energy conservation, water management, and sustainability projects in line with corporate ESG goals.

3. Health & Safety Management

  • Develop and implement safety programs, SOPs, and risk assessments for all plant operations.
  • Conduct HAZOP, HIRA, JSA, and safety audits to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health standards; oversee occupational health center (OHC) and medical surveillance programs.
  • Implement Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and promote a safety-first culture among employees and contractors.

4. Training & Awareness

  • Conduct EHS induction, periodic safety training, and emergency response drills for employees and contractors.
  • Drive awareness campaigns on workplace safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and environmental protection.

5. Emergency Preparedness & Incident Management

  • Lead Emergency Response Team (ERT) and conduct regular mock drills (fire, chemical spills, explosion scenarios).
  • Investigate incidents/accidents, analyze root causes, and implement corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain EHS records, incident logs, risk assessments, and audit reports.
  • Prepare monthly EHS dashboards, KPI monitoring, and management review reports.
  • Support ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other certifications relevant to pharma industry.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations in API manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience in hazardous chemicals handling, fire & explosion risk management.
  • Knowledge of OHC management and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication & stakeholder management.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Education:

    B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Environmental Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Safety Engineering OR Postgraduate in Environment, Health & Safety Management.
  • Certifications:

    Diploma in Industrial Safety (mandatory), NEBOSH/IOSH (preferred).
  • Experience:

    8–15 years in EHS function, preferably in API or bulk drug manufacturing industry.
