Engineer - Planning

1. Role Purpose

The Solar Planning Engineer is responsible for creating detailed project schedules, resource plans, progress monitoring frameworks, and coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure timely and efficient execution of solar EPC projects (Utility-scale / C&I). The role ensures optimized engineering planning, cost control, and smooth coordination between design, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Project Planning & Scheduling

• Develop detailed

  Project Execution Plans (PEP)

  for utility-scale solar projects.
• Prepare

  baseline schedules

  using Primavera P6 / MS Project.
• Break down work into

  WBS, BOQ, activity lists, milestones

  , and timelines.
• Identify

  critical paths

  , float, and time-risk elements.
• Prepare

  monthly, weekly, and daily

  execution plans.

B. Engineering Coordination

• Coordinate with the design team to ensure engineering drawings are released as per project schedule.
  
• Maintain tracking logs for

  IFC drawings, approvals, vendor drawings

  , and design revisions.
• Liaise between structural, electrical, civil, SCADA, and QA/QC teams.
  

C. Material & Resource Planning

• Prepare material requirement plans for

  PV modules, MMS, cables, inverters, BOS items, transformers, HT panels

  etc.
• Track PR PO Delivery status.
  
• Coordinate with SCM for procurement timelines.
  
• Plan contractor deployment, labour productivity, equipment needs (piling machines, cranes, trenching equipment, etc.).
  

D. Progress Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor site progress through daily/weekly MIS from contractors.
  
• Track progress against planned timelines and notify delays.
  
• Prepare dashboards, S-curve reports, productivity charts, and variance analysis.
  
• Conduct delay analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  

E. Risk Management & Cost Control

• Identify project schedule risks and maintain a

  Risk Register

  .
• Assist in cost estimation and budgeting for planning activities.
  
• Monitor cost consumption vs. planned schedule.
  
• Suggest acceleration measures when project is behind schedule.
  

F. Cross-functional Coordination

• Work closely with:

• Procurement & Logistics

• Quality & Safety Teams

• Contractors & Vendors

• Support project reviews with management and clients.
  

G. Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain updated project documentation, approvals, MOMs, schedules, change requests.
  
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, contract terms, and engineering standards.
  
• Assist in DLP (Defect Liability Period) planning and project close-out documentation.
