Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical SME (EHT - Extra Hight Tension Systems) Design to Lead end-to-end design, conceptualization,

engineering, develop layouts, SLDs, DC Campus load estimations, technical specification / scope for SITC of equipment / build items , support

site team Construction and commissioning for 110 kV, 220 kV, and 400 kV AIS & GIS substations, Power Transformers, SCADA and Medium

Voltage (MV) systems. The ideal candidate will be proficient in sound EHV experiences in Design, system studies using ETAP, technical RPF

documents vetting and bid evaluations, regulatory compliance in line with CEA & CEIG regulations, state Utilities norms, protection schemes,

Root cause analysis and troubleshooting.

Main Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities & Technical Aspects,

1. EHT Substation Design & Engineering:

• Optimized AIS & GIS Substation Layout Design:

  • Selection of Single Bus, Double Bus, Main & Transfer Bus, One and Half Breaker, or Ring Bus configurations based on

reliability requirements.

  • GIS substation compact design requiring optimized SF gas compartments for isolators and circuit breakers.

  • Logical placement of control & protection panels for efficient relay coordination.

• Busbar Configuration Optimization:

  • AIS: Rigid Copper/Aluminium tubular busbars with insulation strength optimization and short-circuit withstand capability.

  • GIS: Fully enclosed SF-insulated bus ducts, ensuring minimal footprint and arc containment capability.

• Insulation Coordination & Surge Protection:

  • Implementation of metal oxide surge arresters (ZnO type) across busbars and transformer terminals.

  • Shielding & grounding of control cables to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).

• Electrical Clearance Optimization:

  • AIS: Phase-to-phase, phase-to-earth, and live equipment clearances adhering to IEC 60071 standards.

  • GIS: Optimized compact SF-encased bays reducing clearance requirements significantly.

2. Large Power Transformers (110 kV, 220 kV, 400 kV) Design:

• Define voltage ratings, BIL (Basic Insulation Level), and dielectric strength.

• Specify vector groups (Dyn11, YNd1) for system harmonics mitigation.

• Configure cooling systems (ONAN, ONAF, OFWF, OFAF) for optimal thermal management.

• Adherence to unit protections system for large power transformers like sudden pressure, NIFPS.

• Develop tap changer strategies (OLTC, AVR integration) for voltage regulation.

• Implement Digital Monitoring Systems (SCADA, IoT) for predictive maintenance.

3. System Studies & Protection Coordination:

• Conduct load flow analysis, short circuit studies, and relay coordination, arc flash study using ETAP.

• Implement differential, REF, overcurrent, differential and bus bar protection schemes.

• Evaluate transient stability, ferro resonance mitigation, insulation coordination and reactive power compensation.

4. Regulatory Compliance & Adherence to CEA/CEIG Norms:

• Ensure full compliance with Indian electrical norms.

• Liaise with certification bodies and inspectors to secure approvals.

• Define risk mitigation strategies for regulatory deviations.

2/3 – Design, Build & Delivery

5. Vendor Technical Bid Evaluations & Procurement:

• Develop , evaluate Project RFP documents and Assess vendor technical bids for EHT equipment, ensuring functional & commercial

viability.

• Optimize material specifications, BOQ, and procurement strategies.

6. Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis (RCA):

• Diagnose operational faults using thermal imaging, insulation resistance testing, and DGA.

• Implement failure analysis methodologies and corrective actions.

• Develop predictive maintenance strategies using digital diagnostics.

7. Concept-to-Commissioning Leadership:

• Oversee design, engineering, installation, testing & support site level commissioning activities.

• Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) & Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for quality validation.

• Ensure multi-disciplinary coordination between stakeholders.

Skills & Competencies Required:

• Expertise in AIS & GIS technologies, Power Transformers, SCADA, Daignostics and MV panels.

• Advanced proficiency in ETAP for system modelling and protection analysis.

• Deep understanding of India's electrical regulatory framework (CEA, CEIG).

• Strong troubleshooting skills with hands-on RCA methodologies.

• Exceptional leadership and stakeholder collaboration abilities.
