ECG / PFT Technician

Patient Preparation:

1. Greet and reassure patients, explaining the ECG procedure to them.

2. Properly position and prepare patients, attaching ECG electrodes to the patient's chest, limbs and other designated areas.

3. Ensure that the patient is comfortable and relaxed during the procedure.

ECG Testing:

1. Operate ECG equipment to capture the electrical activity of the heart.

2. Monitor the ECG tracings for abnormalities and artifacts.

3. Recognize and troubleshoot technical issues during testing.

Data Recording:

1. Accurately record and document patient information, including medical history, medications and allergies.

2. Maintain organized records of ECG tests, including patient name, date and time of the procedure.

Quality Control:

1. Ensure that ECG equipment is well-maintained and calibrated.

2. Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of equipment and testing rooms.

3. Implement infection control protocols to prevent cross-contamination.

Collaboration:

1. Collaborate with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to discuss test results and patient observations.

2. Communicate any irregularities or critical findings promptly to the healthcare team.

Patient Education:

1. Educate patients about the ECG procedure, answering questions and alleviating concerns.

2. Provide instructions for ECG monitoring, including the use of portable devices.

Emergency Response:

1. Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies and provide basic life support, if necessary.

Compliance and Regulations:

1. Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations and legal requirements.

2. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Required Skill Sets:

1. Proficiency in operating ECG equipment and software.

2. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

3. Good interpersonal and communication skills.

4. Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment.
