Diagnostic Automotive Technician

As an experienced Automotive Technician, your role will involve performing advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical, electronic, and computer-controlled systems using OEM and aftermarket scan tools. You will diagnose and resolve drivability, performance, and emissions-related issues, interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), live data, and wiring diagrams. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting module programming, coding, and recalibrations, including ECM, TCM, and ADAS sensors. In case of hybrid/electric vehicles, you will also conduct diagnostics and repairs on their systems. Your technical expertise will be crucial as you stay updated on emerging automotive technologies such as EVs, autonomous features, and telematics. You will follow manufacturer technical service bulletins (TSBs) and repair procedures, and may be required to perform engine/transmission rebuilds. Safety is paramount, and you will handle high-voltage systems safely if certified. In terms of customer and team support, clear communication of diagnostic findings and repair recommendations to service advisors/customers is essential. You will also provide mentorship to junior technicians and maintain accurate repair logs and documentation. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to OEM and industry safety standards, and effectively utilizing warranty and labor time guides. To be successful in this role, you are required to hold a Diagnostic Level 4 Certification and have a minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive diagnostics and repair. Your technical skills should include expert-level knowledge of CAN bus systems, oscilloscopes, and multimeters, proficiency in OEM diagnostic software such as Ford IDS, GM MDI, and Toyota Techstream, and experience with ADAS calibrations. Additionally, soft skills like strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and teamwork are essential. An Automotive Technology degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
