Design Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Design Head from the furniture industry who can lead the design function and ensure complete alignment with production and manufacturing. The role requires strong expertise in AutoCAD (mandatory) and SolidWorks, along with in-depth knowledge of furniture design, materials, and production feasibility. The incumbent will review and approve designs prepared by junior designers and ensure all parameters are met for smooth manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership & Review

• Lead and manage the furniture design team, including junior designers and design consultants.
• Review, check, and approve all furniture drawings prepared by junior designers using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Ensure drawings meet design intent, technical accuracy, and manufacturing standards.

Production Feasibility & Coordination

• Evaluate designs for production feasibility, structural strength, material suitability, and cost effectiveness.
• Coordinate closely with the production team to confirm designs are practical and executable on the shop floor.
• Suggest design modifications and value engineering solutions when required. Technical & Software Expertise
• Create, review, and finalize detailed furniture drawings, layouts, and BOMs using AutoCAD (mandatory) and SolidWorks.
• Ensure drawings include accurate dimensions, tolerances, materials, hardware details, and finishes.

Product & Process Understanding

• Possess comprehensive knowledge of furniture construction methods, joinery, hardware, finishes, and materials.
• Ensure all designs align with production capacity, timelines, and quality benchmarks.
• Management & Team Coordination
• Allocate design work, track timelines, and ensure timely delivery of design outputs.
• Mentor and guide junior designers to improve technical skills and productivity.
• Act as the key point of contact between design and production teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's / Diploma in Furniture Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or related field.
• Strong hands-on experience in AutoCAD Mandatory.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (mandatory).
• Excellent understanding of furniture manufacturing and production processes.
• Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Experience

• Minimum 4 12 years of experience in the furniture industry, with prior experience in a design leadership role.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Experience in modular furniture, custom furniture, or large-scale furniture manufacturing units.
• Strong decision-making ability with a practical, production-focused mindset.
