Design Engineer

Job Description

Responsibilities: Conceptual & Detailed Design: Generate innovative design concepts based on project requirements, client specifications, and market needs. Develop detailed engineering designs for components, assemblies, and systems using 3D modeling software. Create accurate 2D manufacturing drawings with proper GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Analysis & Validation: Perform engineering calculations, stress analysis, material selection, and component sizing to ensure design integrity and performance. Conduct or support simulations (e.g., FEA - Finite Element Analysis, CFD - Computational Fluid Dynamics) to validate design performance under various conditions (if applicable to the industry). Collaborate with the testing team for prototype validation and performance verification. Design Optimization: Optimize designs for manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), serviceability, and cost-effectiveness without compromising quality or functionality. Identify opportunities for design simplification and standardization. Documentation & Data Management: Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOM), engineering specifications, design reports, and technical manuals. Ensure proper version control and management of design data using PDM/PLM (Product Data Management/Product Lifecycle Management) systems. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, Production, Quality Assurance, Procurement, Sales, and Service to ensure designs meet all requirements and facilitate smooth transitions from design to manufacturing. Address technical queries and provide design support during production and field operations. Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot design-related issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department. Standards & Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant national and international industry standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, ISO, IS, DIN, BIS) and regulatory requirements. Vendor Interaction: Interact with suppliers and vendors for component selection, technical clarification, and sourcing of new materials or technologies. Communication (Local Emphasis): Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences. Fluency in Marathi and Hindi is beneficial for interacting with local fabrication teams, vendors, and some clients. Excellent English proficiency is essential for technical documentation, global communication, and understanding international standards.
