 Deputy Area Manager - Debt Management Services - SME 
 Job Summary 
The Deputy Area Manager - Debt Management Services - SME is responsible for overseeing and supporting the management of debt recovery operations within the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) segment. This role involves supervising recovery teams, implementing collection strategies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to optimize debt recovery performance.  Key Responsibilities 
  • Assist the Area Manager in supervising daily operations of the debt management team focused on SME clients.
  • Develop and implement effective debt collection strategies to maximize recovery rates and minimize delinquencies.
  • Monitor the performance of recovery officers, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Analyze portfolio trends and generate reports on collection activities, recovery rates, and outstanding debts.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements related to debt collection.
  • Participate in negotiations with delinquent clients, structuring repayment plans and settlements as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Credit Risk, Legal, and Customer Service to resolve complex cases.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all collection activities in the system.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of debt recovery operations.
  • Act as the Area Manager in their absence, ensuring business continuity and operational excellence.

  •  Qualifications and Skills 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in debt management, credit control, or collections, preferably within the SME sector.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards for debt recovery.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work with challenging clients.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and debt management software.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  •  Working Conditions 
  • Full-time position, typically office-based with some field visits as required.
  • May involve occasional travel within the designated area.

    Successful performance in this role may lead to advancement opportunities such as Area Manager, Regional Manager, or other senior leadership positions within debt management or related departments.
