Data Ingestion Engineer

1 Year contract-100% Remote

JOB DESCRIPTION

A global law firm with nearly 1,400 lawyers and more than 3,000 employees across 19 offices in the United States, Europe, and Asia is looking to build out a data lake to encompass both internal and external data. The role is a long-term contract and is remote. The firm is widely recognized for its expertise in corporate law, litigation, intellectual property, life sciences, technology, and venture capital, advising on transformative deals, IPOs, and complex regulatory matters. The firm is looking to hire an Ingestion Engineer to join their team building this greenfield data lake.The engineer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the ingestion pipelines that move data from source applications directly into the Bronze layer of the data lake (95% of time) or S3 bucket (5%). This is schema-led ingestion with no transformations in Bronze, ensuring data is auditable and traceable back to the source application. They are ingesting data from vendor applications directly into the bronze layer, so we they are not doing API integrations.

Key Responsibilities

Data Ingestion

-Build and manage ingestion workflows from vendor applications into the Bronze data lake layer.

-Ensure ingestion processes are reliable, auditable, and aligned with schema standards.

Tool Expertise

-Use Qlik Replicate for applications on SQL Server.

-Use Fivetran for SaaS applications (API-based ingestion).

Monitoring & Maintenance

-Monitor ingestion jobs, troubleshoot issues, and ensure real-time change capture.

-Maintain logs for auditability and compliance.

Collaboration

-Work under guidance from the Lead Data Engineer and coordinate with platform teams.

Scalability

-Support ingestion for ~75 known third-party applications and data sources.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- 3-5+ years of experience in data ingestion or ETL/ELT processes

- Hands-on experience with Qlik Replicate and Fivetran

- Strong understanding of schema-led ingestion and data lake architectures

- Familiarity with cloud storage (e.g., S3) and basic data governance principles

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

-Experience with change data capture (CDC) and log-based ingestion.

-Knowledge of data cataloging and data quality tools.

-Exposure to Lakehouse architectures and integration with downstream systems.
