About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Specialist with hands-on experience in Microsoft Purview to implement and manage enterprise-wide data governance practices. The ideal candi will be responsible for metadata management, data cataloging, classification, lineage tracking, policy governance, and ensuring compliance across the organization s data landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design, implementation, and management of Microsoft Purview across M365 and Azure
- Define and implement policies for data classification, sensitivity labels, retention, and compliance policies
- Integrate Purview with existing governance and DLP solutions
- Enable automated metadata harvesting and maintain an up-to- enterprise data catalog.
- Manage data lineage setup to track end-to-end data flows across systems and processes.
- Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and SMEs to establish governance frameworks and workflows.
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and infrastructure teams to enhance data visibility and control.
- Produce detailed documentation and handover to operational teams
- Define and maintain data standards, data definitions, and business glossaries .
- Work closely with security teams to align data governance with compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA, ISO, etc.).
- Drive adoption of Microsoft Purview across analytics, engineering, and business teams.
- itor Purview insights and dashboards to enforce policy adherence.
- Provide documentation, training, and support to teams on governance tools and processes.
- Support audits and regulatory reporting by ensuring quality data controls and traceability
Ideal Candi Profile
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
- Proven experience working with Microsoft Purview (Data Catalog, Data Map, Data Insights, Data Policy).
- Strong understanding of:
- Metadata management
- Data lineage and data classification
- Data quality principles
- Data privacy and compliance frameworks
- Experience with Azure data ecosystem (Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Databricks, ADF).
- Familiarity with Power BI governance within Purview (optional but valuable).
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK.
- Ability to work with technical and business teams for policy rollout and governance adoption.
- Excellent documentation, coordination, and communication skills.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Deep expertise in Microsoft Purview, M365 Compliance, and Information Protection.
- Strong understanding of DLP, Insider Risk, eDiscovery, and Data Classification.
- Proven track record delivering secure solutions in Government or regulated sectors
Good to have
- Experience implementing governance tools like Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation, etc.
- Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts.
- Azure certifications such as:
- Azure Enterprise Data Analyst Associate
- Azure Data Engineer Associate
- Security / Compliance certifications
- Experience with sensitive data identification, GDPR/PII handling, and access management.
- Exposure to automation using PowerShell, Azure Functions, or Purview REST APIs.
