Job Description

The Anesthesia Doctor is responsible for administering anesthesia and monitoring patient vitals during surgical and diagnostic procedures. The role involves pre-operative evaluation, intraoperative management, and post-operative care, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative period.

Key Responsibilities:Pre-operative:

  • Assess patients’ medical history and physical condition to determine appropriate anesthesia plans.
  • Explain anesthesia procedures and associated risks to patients or caregivers.
  • Order and review necessary investigations (e.g., ECG, X-ray, lab tests).
  • Obtain informed consent before administering anesthesia.

Intraoperative:

  • Administer general, regional, or local anesthesia during surgeries or procedures.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs (heart rate, BP, oxygen levels, etc.) throughout the surgery.
  • Manage airway and ventilation using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Adjust anesthetic dosages based on patient response and surgical needs.
  • Respond to intraoperative emergencies and manage complications promptly.

Post-operative:

  • Monitor patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) for recovery from anesthesia.
  • Manage post-operative pain using medications or regional blocks.
  • Record all anesthesia-related procedures and medications accurately in patient records.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and ICU teams for continuity of care.

Qualifications:

  • MBBS with MD / DNB / DA in Anesthesiology from a recognized institution
  • Valid registration with the Medical Council of India or relevant State Medical Council
  • Experience: Minimum 0–3+ years (depending on seniority level) in anesthesia practice

Skills & Competencies:

  • Expertise in administering different types of anesthesia (GA, RA, local, MAC)
  • Proficient in airway management and use of anesthesia equipment
  • Ability to work in high-pressure and emergency situations
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with pain management protocols and critical care support

Desirable:

  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
  • Experience in managing anesthesia in special procedures (neuro, cardiac, pediatric, etc.)
  • Exposure to NABH/JCI-accredited hospital practices
  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts and on-call duty
