CLUB GENERAL MANAGER J.D

A private club General Manager (GM) is a high-level executive, responsible for managing all aspects of the club's daily operations, strategic direction, and financial performance while ensuring exceptional member experiences and upholding club policies set by the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities

The GM's duties span across various club departments, which can include the golf course, food and beverage, fitness centers, and member services.

  • Leadership & Staff Management:

    Provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to all department heads, including recruiting, hiring,training, and motivating staff to deliver excellent service and foster a positive, professional work environment.

Member Relations & Engagement:

  • Financial Management:

    Prepares and manages annual operating and capital budgets, monitors financial performance (revenue, expenses, profitability), implements cost-control measures, and reports regularly to the Board of Directors.

  • Operational Excellence & Facilities Management:

    Ensures all club facilities and amenities are maintained to the highest standards, overseeing maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and capital projects. They also ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Marketing & Membership Growth:

    Develops and executes strategies to attract new members and retain existing ones, often collaborating with marketing teams to enhance the club's visibility and reputation.

  • Governance & Stakeholder Engagement:

    Acts as the key liaison between the Board of Directors, committees, and staff. They implement Board policies, provide regular performance reports, and represent the club in community and industry events.

Qualifications & Skills

Successful private club GMs typically possess a blend of formal education, relevant experience, and strong soft skills.

  • Experience:

    A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in a similar role within the hospitality, club, or golf industry is often required.

Education:

  • Hard Skills:

    • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L statement management.
    • Proficiency in club management software, CRM systems, and standard office software.
    • Knowledge of health, safety, and food handling regulations.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • A high level of professionalism, integrity, and a strong customer service orientation.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
