Job Description

ISS STOXX is looking for a Climate Analytics Consultant for our Climate Solutions Team at the Mumbai - Goregaon East location.

Overview:

Climate Solutions is a unit within ISS Sustainability Solutions, the responsible investment business of ISS STOXX. As investors seek to gain a better understanding of their exposure to climate-related risks, Climate Solutions provides data, analytics, and advisory services to support investors in understanding, measuring, and acting on climate-related risks & opportunities and their impact on investments across all asset classes. ISS STOXX Sustainability Solutions Climate Solutions is an innovative market leader within its field.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to data science-driven product development, including climate risk assessment products.

  • Develop and maintain custom data models and algorithms for large geospatial and climate datasets.

  • Improve existing models and ensure regular data updates.

  • Assess the accuracy and effectiveness of new data sources and data-gathering techniques.

  • Analyze international regulatory requirements, public datasets, and scenario data to identify opportunities for new climate-related sustainable finance products.

  • Collaborate with other ESG and climate-risk product teams and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on ESG product offerings, supporting colleagues and clients through day-to-day communications, operations, and specialist inquiries.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Degree in atmospheric or physical sciences, meteorology, hydrology, environmental science, or a related field.

  • 2 4 years of experience as a climate specialist, geospatial data analyst, environmental engineer, or similar role, with expertise in climate data analysis (e.g., atmospheric sciences, climate change impacts, physics-based hazard modelling, or natural catastrophe modelling).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with prior research experience.

  • Familiarity with climate data sources, climate models and initiatives, e.g. CMIP5 and CMIP6.

  • Proficiency in data science, geospatial data analysis and statistical analysis.

  • Strong programming skills in Python (including libraries such as xarray, rasterio, geopandas) and good working knowledge of UNIX shell.

  • Comfortable working with large geospatial datasets (vector and raster) and GIS tools.

  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker).

  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments (e.g. GCP).

  • Experience developing or maintaining large-scale climate hazard models is a plus (e.g., river/coastal floods, tropical cyclones, wildfires, heat stress, drought).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across locations and time zones.

  • Detail-oriented and proactive in problem-solving within a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent oral and written command of English.

  • Interest in ESG, responsible investment, and sustainability is desirable.

  • Previous experience in ESG and/or sustainable climate finance is a plus.

  • Experience publishing climate or hazard science papers or posts is beneficial.
