Citrix & Systems Administrator

Position Overview

The Citrix & Systems Administrator is responsible for administering and maintaining the company's Citrix environments (Citrix VDI, XenApp) while supporting the broader infrastructure stack that underpins it, including VMware, Hyper-V, Cisco UCS, and NetApp storage systems.

This role ensures the stability, availability, and performance of virtual desktop and application delivery services across the enterprise. It also contributes to modernization efforts, supporting the transition toward next-generation virtual desktop platforms such as Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, or AWS Workspaces.

This position is part of a global operations model with a U.S.-based lead and an India-based Level 2 support team, enabling near-24/7 coverage for business-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

Citrix Administration

• Administer and maintain Citrix VDI and XenApp environments, ensuring uptime, performance, and end-user experience.
• Manage and optimize Citrix Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, License Servers, and Citrix Director.
• Support Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS / MCS), machine catalogs, and delivery groups.
• Perform patching, image management, and profile maintenance (FSLogix, UPM).
• Coordinate with Citrix Support for escalation and RCA during incidents.
• Maintain monitoring and alerting through Citrix Director, Studio, and third-party tools (e.g., ControlUp, Citrix Analytics).
• Document and improve operational runbooks, automation scripts, and recovery procedures.

Infrastructure & Platform Support

• Manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere / Hyper-V) supporting Citrix workloads and other enterprise systems.
• Support Cisco UCS blade and rack servers including firmware updates and hardware troubleshooting.
• Administer NetApp storage solutions used by Citrix and other environments, including provisioning and snapshots.
• Maintain Windows Server infrastructure (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, IIS, Certificate Services).
• Support backup and recovery platforms (Veeam, Commvault) for Citrix and infrastructure components.
• Work closely with Cloud Engineering and Architecture teams on modernization efforts and proofs of concept for cloud-based virtual desktop solutions.

Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor and remediate alerts across infrastructure observability platforms (Splunk, Datadog, SolarWinds, Azure Monitor).
• Execute incident response and troubleshooting for outages and performance issues.
• Contribute to change management documentation and post-incident reviews.
• Support service stability through patching, lifecycle management, and performance tuning.
• Collaborate with Service Desk and Operations Excellence teams for escalations and user experience improvements.

Modernization & Transition

• Participate in strategic initiatives to evaluate and pilot cloud VDI platforms (Microsoft AVD, Windows 365, AWS Workspaces).
• Contribute to migration planning and documentation to ensure a smooth transition from Citrix to future platforms.
• Identify automation and scripting opportunities to reduce manual administration (PowerShell, Ansible, Python).

Qualifications

• 5+ years of system administration experience with at least 3 years in Citrix environments (VDI, XenApp, PVS/MCS).
• Strong understanding of Citrix architecture, policies, profile management, and delivery controllers.
• Experience with VMware vSphere and/or Hyper-V including vCenter and cluster management.
• Hands-on with NetApp or equivalent enterprise storage solutions.
• Experience managing Cisco UCS servers (blades, chassis, fabric interconnects).
• Familiar with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, AWS Workspaces, or similar platforms.
• Proficiency in PowerShell (required); Python or Ansible a plus.
• Experience with Citrix Director, ControlUp, Datadog, or SolarWinds.
• Certifications preferred: - Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA-V / CCP-V) - VMware VCP / Microsoft AZ-104 / Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty - NetApp NCDA / Cisco UCS certification a plus.
