Chief Engineer - Hotels

1. Position Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the overall maintenance operations of the hotel, ensuring all systems, equipment, services, and facilities function efficiently and safely. The role ensures statutory compliance, preventive maintenance, safety standards, energy conservation, and smooth day-to-day hotel operations while leading a skilled engineering team.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Operational & Technical Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and repair of

  HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, STP/ETP, fire safety systems, DG sets, lifts, boilers

  , and building infrastructure.
• Develop and execute

  Preventive Maintenance (PPM)

  schedules for all equipment and guest areas.
• Conduct regular property inspections to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure minimal breakdown time and quick restoration of services.
• Monitor

  energy consumption

  and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Ensure

  water quality, boiler operations, swimming pool maintenance

  meet safety standards.
• Maintain AMC contracts and coordinate with external vendors & service providers.

B. Team Management

• Lead, supervise, and train engineering staff (technicians, electricians, plumbers, A/C mechanics).
• Allocate daily work and review completion reports.
• Conduct performance evaluations and ensure continuous skill development.
• Maintain duty rosters, overtime, and leave planning.

C. Safety & Statutory Compliance

• Ensure 100% compliance with

  local statutory regulations

  related to fire safety, pollution control, boiler operations, lifts, electrical systems, and building safety.
• Maintain updated records for

  fire drills, safety audits, and preventive maintenance

  .
• Ensure all fire safety equipment (hydrants, sprinklers, alarms, extinguishers) are functional and regularly tested.
• Implement workplace safety practices for staff.

D. Guest Experience

• Respond immediately to guest room maintenance requests or escalations.
• Ensure guest rooms and public areas are maintained at the highest standards.
• Work closely with Front Office & Housekeeping for quick room readiness.

E. Inventory & Budgeting

• Prepare and manage departmental budgets for maintenance, repairs, and capital expenditure.
• Maintain inventory of tools, spare parts, consumables, and machinery.
• Responsible for vendor negotiation and cost control.

F. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain logs for breakdowns, preventive maintenance, utility consumption, and safety inspections.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly engineering reports.
• Maintain updated equipment manuals and asset register.

4. Qualifications & Experience

• Experience in 4-star or 5-star hotels/resorts preferred.
• Strong knowledge of engineering systems and energy management practices.
