Role & responsibilities Infection Control Nurse (ICN) Roles & Responsibilities Monitor and prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) Conduct infection surveillance and maintain infection data/records Implement infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols across the hospital Train doctors, nurses, and staff on hand hygiene, sterilization & infection control practices Ensure proper use of PPE (gloves, mask, gown etc.) by healthcare workers Inspect wards, ICU, OT, labs, laundry & kitchen for infection safety compliance Check sterilization and disinfection procedures (CSSD/OT etc.) Monitor biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per guidelines Investigate infection outbreaks and take corrective action Participate in health audits and prepare audit reports Support NABH / JCI / ISO infection control documentation Ensure vaccination and immunization programs for healthcare workers Coordinate with microbiology lab for culture reports & infection trends Update infection control policies as per government guidelines Educate patients and attendants about infection prevention practices Qualification / Course To become an ICN Nurse , generally required: B.Sc. Nursing / GNM ICN Certification / Infection Control Nurse Course
