Role & responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Career Counsellor provides guidance, advice, and resources to individuals seeking to make informed decisions about their career paths, education, and employment options. They assess clients interests, skills, values, and goals to help them identify suitable career opportunities, develop job-search strategies, and achieve professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct one-on-one and group counselling sessions to assist students in exploring career options.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments (e.g., aptitude, personality, and interest tests).
  • Guide clients in setting realistic career goals and developing personalized career plans.
  • Provide support with job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, and interview preparation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of job market trends, education programs, and employment opportunities.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and career fairs on topics such as career planning and employability skills.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions, employers, and training providers to enhance career services.
  • Keep accurate records of counselling sessions and track client progress.
  • Ensure confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all counselling practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Certification in career counselling or guidance (preferred, depending on region).
  • Proven experience in counselling, coaching, or a similar advisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of labor market trends and educational pathways.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong empathy, active listening, and motivational skills.
  • Ability to assess and analyse clients’ abilities, interests, and personality traits.
  • Proficiency in using career assessment tools and digital career platforms.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • Confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct.

Work Environment:

  • Typically, office-based, with in-person and virtual counselling sessions.
  • May require participation in career fairs, school visits, and workshops.
