Job Summary

The Hospital Chartered Accountant will be a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for overseeing the financial health and integrity of the hospital. This role involves managing all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, and cost control. The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive experience in the healthcare industry to drive financial discipline, optimize revenue cycles, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Financial Planning & Analysis:

P&L Management: Prepare, review, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and balance sheets with detailed variance analysis against budgets.

Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting cycles. Collaborate with department heads to develop realistic and challenging financial targets.

MIS Reporting: Develop and maintain robust Management Information Systems (MIS) to provide actionable insights to senior management for strategic decision-making.

2. Cost Management & Control:

Cost Controlling: Implement and monitor stringent cost control measures across all departments without compromising patient care quality.

Cost Management: Analyze operational costs, including procurement, pharmacy, diagnostics, and staffing, to identify areas for efficiency improvement and cost reduction.

Inventory & Asset Management: Oversee the financial aspects of inventory control and fixed asset management, ensuring proper valuation and depreciation.

3. Revenue Cycle & Collections Management:

Collections: Strategize and oversee the entire collections process, from patient billing to final settlement from insurance companies, government panels (CGHS/ECHS), and individual patients.

Receivables Management: Actively manage and analyze the accounts receivable aging to minimize bad debts and improve cash flow.

Revenue Assurance: Ensure accurate billing, coding, and charge capture to prevent revenue leakage. Liaise with the TPA and billing departments to streamline processes.

4. Audit, Compliance & Taxation:

Statutory & Internal Audit: Act as the primary point of contact for internal and statutory auditors. Ensure timely completion of audits and implementation of audit recommendations.

Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all statutory requirements, including GST, TDS, Income Tax, and other corporate laws applicable to the hospital industry.

Financial Regulations: Stay updated with healthcare-specific financial regulations and ensure the hospital's adherence.

5. General Accounting & Operations:

Ledger Maintenance: Supervise the maintenance of the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.

Cash Flow Management: Prepare and manage cash flow statements, ensuring optimal liquidity to meet operational needs.

Team Leadership: Mentor and manage the junior accounts team, fostering a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification: Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is mandatory.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience is required, with a significant portion spent within the healthcare or hospital industry.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in preparing and analyzing P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

Strong hands-on experience in budgeting, cost management, and cost control.

Expertise in managing hospital collections and the revenue cycle.

Proficiency in Tally ERP, MS Excel, and other hospital management information systems (HMIS). Experience with SAP or Oracle is a plus.

Strong leadership and team management abilities.

Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Superior communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with medical and administrative staff.
