Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Billing & Invoicing

  • Generate patient bills (IPD/OPD/Diagnostics/Emergency) accurately and on time.
  • Verify charges for procedures, investigations, consultations, consumables, and room charges.
  • Ensure correct application of tariffs, packages, and discounts as per hospital policy.
  • Coordinate with nursing, pharmacy, radiology, and other departments to ensure correct charge posting.

2. Admission & Discharge Support

  • Coordinate with the admission desk for patient registration and billing category.
  • Prepare provisional and final bills during patient discharge.
  • Inform patients or attendants about bill updates and outstanding amounts.

3. Insurance & TPA Coordination

  • Verify insurance/TPA documents and cashless approvals.
  • Update billing according to TPA/insurance policies and approved limits.
  • Coordinate for query resolution and documentation required for claim processing.
  • Ensure accurate billing based on TPA agreements and package rates.

4. Cash & Payment Handling

  • Receive payments (cash, card, UPI, cheque) and generate receipts.
  • Reconcile daily cash collections and hand over to accounts as per protocol.
  • Maintain proper records of refunds, advances, and settlements.

5. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain complete billing records, supporting documents, and audit requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient financial information.

6. Customer Service

  • Address billing-related queries and provide clear explanations to patients/families.
  • Coordinate with doctors and departments for resolving discrepancies in billing.
  • Provide professional, polite, and transparent communication at all times.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of hospital billing systems (HIS)
  • Understanding of TPA/Insurance processes
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle patient queries
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS Excel, HIS software)

Qualification & Experience:

  • Graduate (Preferably B.Com, BBA, or equivalent)
  • 13 years of experience in hospital billing (OPD/IPD) preferred
  • Knowledge of NABH standards will be an added advantage
