Billing Assistant

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Billing & Invoicing: Prepare in-patient and out-patient bills based on doctor consultations, investigations, procedures, pharmacy, and room charges. Enter charges accurately into the hospital management system (HMS). Generate interim and final bills for admitted patients. Cash & Payment Handling: Collect payments via cash, card, or digital modes. Issue receipts and maintain daily cash collection records. Ensure timely deposit of collected payments with the accounts department or bank. Documentation & Records: Maintain patient billing files and records for audits and internal checks. Coordinate with the front desk, pharmacy, and diagnostics to ensure all services are billed. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly billing reports. Insurance Coordination: Assist patients with insurance documentation and pre-authorizations. Submit required documents to insurance providers for settlement. Customer Interaction: Clarify billing queries raised by patients or relatives in a polite and professional manner. Provide itemized bills upon request and explain charges as needed. Compliance & Internal Coordination: Follow hospital billing protocols and SOPs. Inform the billing supervisor of any billing errors, discrepancies, or system issues. Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of patient financial data. Qualifications and Skills: Minimum: Graduate (preferably B.Com or equivalent). 1–2 years of experience in hospital billing preferred (fresher with good computer skills may be considered). Good communication and customer service skills. Attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
