Job Description

Job Title : BESS Assembly Manufacturing Unit Design Designation: Manager Location : Ahmedabad Job Type : Full-Time Department : Engineering / New and Renewable Energy Job Summary: We are looking for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Design Engineer to play a key role in the design and development of advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for our manufacturing unit. This position focuses primarily on designing the electrical, mechanical, and software components of BESS products that are scalable, efficient, and robust. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in designing BESS for large-scale applications and will be responsible for ensuring that the systems meet safety standards, performance metrics, and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities: System Design : Lead the design of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) from concept to prototype, including electrical schematics, system architecture, thermal management, power electronics, and battery management systems (BMS). Component Design : Design key components such as inverters, charge controllers, battery packs, power conversion units, cooling systems, and enclosures for integration into the BESS. Thermal Management : Design and optimize the thermal management systems to ensure efficient heat dissipation for battery packs and other critical components of the energy storage system. Electrical Design : Develop and optimize electrical schematics, power distribution networks, and integration of power electronics components, including DC/AC inverters, DC-DC converters, and protection circuits. Battery Management System (BMS) : Work closely with the BMS team to design, integrate, and optimize battery management systems that monitor, control, and ensure the safety of the battery cells within the energy storage unit. Safety Standards and Compliance : Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and certifications (e.g., UL, IEC, NFPA) for safety, reliability, and performance. Modeling and Simulation : Use design and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to model BESS performance, simulate system behavior, and validate designs before implementation. Prototyping and Testing : Design and oversee the creation of BESS prototypes for testing and validation of system performance, safety, and reliability. Ensure that designs meet the required operational efficiency, lifespan, and safety under various conditions. Optimization : Continuously improve the design and performance of energy storage systems based on testing feedback, real-world use, and emerging technologies. Collaboration with Manufacturing Teams : Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure that designs can be efficiently produced at scale while maintaining product quality and reducing manufacturing costs. Documentation : Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and system operation manuals, for internal and external use. Cost Optimization : Evaluate and implement design improvements to reduce production and operational costs without compromising performance or safety. Qualifications: Education : Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. Experience : Minimum of 7-8 years of experience in designing energy storage systems, with a focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Experience in designing electrical, thermal, and mechanical components for BESS, including power electronics, battery management systems, and thermal management solutions. Experience with large-scale BESS design and understanding of energy storage system integration with renewable sources like solar and wind. Skills : Proficiency in design and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.). Strong understanding of electrical systems, power electronics, and battery technologies, including lithium-ion, lead-acid, and emerging technologies. Familiarity with BMS architecture, SOC (State of Charge), SOH (State of Health), and other critical battery parameters. Strong knowledge of power system design, load analysis, and grid integration of BESS. In-depth understanding of industry standards, such as UL, IEC, and NFPA, for energy storage and safety requirements. Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation of electrical systems and energy storage products. Certifications : Relevant certifications in battery storage systems, electrical system design, or energy management are a plus (e.g., NABCEP, IEC 62133, etc.). Key Competencies: Technical Excellence : Deep technical expertise in electrical and mechanical system design, with a focus on energy storage technologies and power systems. Problem-solving : Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and develop innovative solutions to overcome design challenges. Project Management : Ability to manage multiple design projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Collaboration : Strong team-oriented mindset, with experience collaborating across different engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, software). Communication Skills : Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders.
