We are looking for a Senior Backend Architect to shape and implement the core digital infrastructure for large-scale government platforms. You will design scalable, interoperable APIs and registries, drive technical standards, and collaborate closely with national and state teams to enable robust, secure, and data-driven digital services.
This is a hands-on, architecture-focused role for a professional passionate about building modular, high-impact systems that serve millions of users.
What You’ll Do
System Architecture & API Design
Define and implement API specifications and sector-specific registries for government platforms.
Analyze existing state and national digital systems to identify opportunities for integration and improvement.
Develop modular, extensible, and interoperable API frameworks adhering to national standards.
Establish governance, versioning, and integration guidelines for scalable system adoption across multiple stakeholders.
Implementation & Integration Support
Collaborate with state engineering teams, MIS units, and solution providers to integrate API and registry specifications into live platforms.
Review vendor architectures, solution proposals, and implementation plans for technical alignment.
Ensure that design and implementation decisions align with national priorities, security, and data governance standards.
Documentation & Stakeholder Collaboration
Prepare clear architectural diagrams, technical notes, integration guides, and onboarding documentation.
Communicate complex technical decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Facilitate knowledge sharing across government teams, implementation partners, and external vendors.
What We’re Looking For
Technical Expertise
Strong background in backend system architecture, microservices-driven platforms, and API-first design.
Proficiency in cloud services, containerized environments, relational and NoSQL databases.
Experience designing secure, versioned, and extensible APIs for multi-stakeholder ecosystems.
Familiarity with data governance, privacy, auditability, and federated registry models.
Problem-Solving & Systems Thinking
Ability to navigate complex government digital ecosystems and simplify architectures.
Experience building modular, maintainable systems that support evolving requirements.
Resourceful, solution-oriented, and able to deliver in ambiguous environments.
Mindset & Collaboration
Comfortable working with government stakeholders and public institutions.
Strong hands-on, builder/architect mindset with minimal focus on traditional project management.
Excited to work in fast-paced, evolving digital infrastructure programs.
Qualifications
5–8 years of experience in backend engineering, system architecture, or digital infrastructure roles.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
Proven experience in large-scale platform development, API-first architecture, and microservices design.
