Occupational Toxicology position
Assistant Manager
Grade V11Position summary: We are seeking a scientifically driven and detail-oriented Occupational Toxicologist to join our team. This role supports the safe handling of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, and other chemical agents used in drug development and manufacturing. You will assist in evaluating occupational exposure risks, developing control strategies, and ensuring compliance with global health and safety regulations to protect employees across R&D and production environments.Essential duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the assessment of occupational hazards related to APIs, intermediates, and solvents.
  2. Support the development of Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) and Occupational Exposure banding (OEBs) in accordance with the Viatris programs and practices.
  3. Conduct toxicological literature reviews and compile hazard profiles for pharmaceutical compounds
  4. Collaborate with industrial hygienists and process engineers to evaluate exposure scenarios and recommend controls.
  5. Contribute to the design and implementation of containment strategies for high-potency compounds.
  6. Help prepare technical documentation including risk assessments, SDSs, and internal safety guidelines
  7. Maintain knowledge of global regulatory requirements as it applies to the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory, and occupational toxicology.
  8. Develop and maintain Global EHS Occupational Toxicology and Industrial Hygiene initiatives and communications.
  9. Maintain internal toxicological databases and contribute to cross-functional safety reviews
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  2. Foundational knowledge of toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and occupational health principles.
  3. Familiarity with pharmaceutical regulatory frameworks (FDA, EMA, ICH, etc.).
  4. Strong research and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  5. Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scientific databases.
  7. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and dynamic environments.


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 2-4 years of experience in preparing Health Based Exposure limits (HBELs)
  2. Basic knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
