Assistant Manager - Tool Room

Role & responsibilities

• Tool Availability & Planning

  : Ensure timely availability of tools to meet daily production schedules and avoid any disruption in operations.

• Tool Downtime Management:

  Monitor and actively work to reduce tool downtime by improving Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).

• Cost Control & Optimization:

  Maintain consumable tool costs within defined targets. Drive cost reduction initiatives through improvements in tool life via material substitution, advanced coatings, process optimization, and yield enhancement.

• Technical Expertise:

  Possess sound knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), various tool steels, and their heat treatment processes.

• Vendor & Process Management:

  Develop and manage vendor relationships for tool manufacturing and servicing. Calculate machine time, reduce tool servicing time, and maintain documentation in line with ISO, IATF, and API standards.

• Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement:

  Lead lean initiatives such as SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Dies), process development, and First-Time-Right (FTR) for new product development (NPD). Continuously improve by addressing and resolving recurring issues at the shop floor (Gemba).

• Tool Technology & Manufacturing Expertise:

  Be proficient in operating and supervising tool manufacturing machinery including EDM, Wirecut, VMC, and conventional machines. Expertise in precision tool manufacturing techniques such as jig grinding, super finishing processes (lapping, honing, grinding), and ensure tools meet fit, form, and functional requirements.

• Innovation & Quality Focus:

  Establish and validate new tools, spares, and support NPD. Guide tool vendors on best practices and modern tool-making technologies to enhance quality, reduce lead time, and lower tool manufacturing costs.
