Assistant Manager - Proto Shop

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prototype Build & Development:

• Lead the fabrication, assembly, and validation of prototype vehicles or components.
• Ensure that prototypes meet design specifications, performance targets, and safety standards.

2. Cross-Functional Coordination:

• Work closely with design, R&D, manufacturing, and testing teams to troubleshoot issues and suggest improvements.
• Support engineering teams in implementing design changes and conducting feasibility studies.

3. Material & Process Selection:

• Identify appropriate materials, fabrication techniques, and assembly processes for prototype builds.
• Ensure the use of cost-effective and production-feasible materials.

4. Testing & Validation Support:

• Assist in functional and durability testing of prototypes.
• Monitor performance parameters and document test results to drive design refinements.

5. Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain detailed records of prototype build processes, material usage, and engineering changes.
• Generate reports on prototype issues, corrective actions, and design feedback.

6. Supplier & Vendor Coordination:

• Work with external suppliers for prototype parts procurement and fabrication.
• Ensure timely availability of prototype components.

7. Manufacturing Feasibility & DFM/DFA:

• Assess manufacturability and ease of assembly (DFM/DFA) of prototype designs.
• Recommend design improvements to reduce complexity and cost.

8. Team Leadership & Training:

• Guide junior engineers and technicians in prototype assembly and testing activities.
• Conduct training sessions on new fabrication methods and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Education:

  Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering or a related field.

• Experience:

  5+ years in prototype development, fabrication, and testing (preferably in the automotive or heavy vehicle industry).

• Technical Skills:

• Strong understanding of vehicle structures, sheet metal fabrication, and welding techniques.
• Knowledge of materials, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes like machining, forming, and composite structures.

• Soft Skills:

• Problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach.
• Strong project management and leadership skills.
• Good communication skills to coordinate across teams.
