Assistant Manager - Horticulture

A. Required & Preferred Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Horticulture (B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Horticulture) from a

recognized university

• Additional certifications in Landscaping, Arboriculture, Floriculture.

B. Experience

• Experience in industrial, township, or large-scale institutional horticulture preferred

• Proven track record in developing and maintaining green zones, landscapes, and

horticultural infrastructure

• Experience with floriculture, landscaping, nursery development, and arboriculture

• Exposure to sustainable and environment-friendly horticultural practices

C. Technical Knowledge

• In-depth understanding of plant biology, soil science, and agronomy

• Expertise in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and sustainable cultivation techniques

• Familiarity with greenhouse and controlled environment systems

• Sound knowledge of seasonal planting schedules and landscape aesthetics

• Experience with soil testing, water quality analysis, and plant tissue diagnostics

D. Analytical & Communication Skills

• Ability to analyze environmental, climatic, and soil-related data to optimize plant care

• Capable of preparing reports, presentations, and horticultural plans

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, Hindi, and Marathi (preferred)

• Leadership skills to manage ground staff and horticultural contractors effectively

E. Key Responsibilities

1. Develop, execute, and maintain detailed horticultural and landscaping plans for plant

and township areas

2. Monitor growth patterns, plant health, and soil conditions regularly; take corrective

actions promptly

3. Coordinate and supervise planting of trees, shrubs, turf, and flowering plants as per

seasonal and design plans

4. Develop and manage nurseries, vertical gardens, green belts, and indoor/outdoor green

aesthetics

5. Implement eco-friendly practices, such as organic fertilizers, composting, and rainwater

harvesting

6. Design and oversee irrigation systems, including drip and sprinkler setups

7. Train horticulture staff and workers on modern cultivation practices, safety, and

equipment handling

8. Maintain cleanliness, upkeep, and aesthetic appearance of landscaped zones

9. Manage horticulture-related budgets, procurement of plants, fertilizers, tools, and

machinery

10. Coordinate with pollution control, township, and safety departments for green cover

compliance

11. Ensure compliance with all environmental and regulatory guidelines regarding green

area development

F. Technical Skills

• Proficiency in horticultural software/tools for planning and tracking (e.g., AutoCAD for

landscaping layouts, GIS mapping tools, Excel-based maintenance schedules)

• Familiarity with organic farming, biodiversity enhancement, and green belt regulatory

compliance

• Skilled in pest/disease diagnosis and treatment

• Knowledge of vertical gardening, terrace farming, and water-efficient irrigation systems

• Plant species identification and suitability analysis for local climatic conditions

• Knowledge of horticultural tools and machinery (lawn mowers, trimmers, sprayers,

irrigation systems, etc.)

• Landscaping design and execution experience

• Capability to work in variable climatic conditions and undertake physical inspection work
