Job Description

Department:

1. Role Objective

To ensure smooth, continuous, and efficient operation of the 500 TPD DRI plant by supervising mechanical maintenance activities, minimizing equipment downtime, and enhancing plant reliability and performance.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

  • Plan, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance for all mechanical equipment in the DRI plant.
  • Attend mechanical breakdowns, diagnose faults, and take corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain history records of major equipment and update maintenance logs.

B. Equipment Operation & Monitoring

  • Monitor performance of critical equipment such as:
    • Kiln & Cooler
    • ESP, APC, Bag Filters
    • Refractory systems
    • Gearboxes, blowers, compressors, and pumps
    • Conveyors (belt, chain), bucket elevators, screeners
  • Ensure optimal operation parameters and identify abnormalities.

C. Spares & Inventory Management

  • Identify critical spare requirements and raise indents for procurement.
  • Monitor stock levels, coordinate with the stores department, and ensure availability of essential mechanical spares.
  • Maintain a preventive average consumption record.

D. Safety & Compliance

  • Implement safety procedures during all maintenance jobs.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, OHSAS, and plant operational standards.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety audits for mechanical teams.

E. Team Supervision

  • Lead the mechanical maintenance team (fitters, welders, technicians).
  • Allocate daily tasks and monitor their completion.
  • Train team members on safe and effective maintenance practices.

F. Coordination

  • Coordinate with Production, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Stores teams for maintenance and shutdown activities.
  • Assist in planning and execution of annual and monthly shutdowns.

G. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily maintenance reports and breakdown analysis reports.
  • Maintain checklists for kilns, coolers, conveying systems, lubrication systems, and rotating equipment.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) for major equipment failures.

3. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance in DRI (300–500 TPD) plant
  • Expertise in rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatic systems, and alignment practices.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and P&ID diagrams.
  • Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Good communication and team-handling capabilities.
  • SAP / ERP knowledge (optional but preferred).

4. Qualification & Experience

  • Education:

    Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience:

    5–10 years (with minimum 3–5 years in DRI 300–500 TPD plant).
  • Industry:

    Steel, Sponge Iron, DRI manufacturing.
