Assistant General Manager Production

Role & responsibilities

Production & Operations Management

• Plan, organize, and control end-to-end aluminium extrusion operations including billet heating, extrusion, quenching, stretching, cutting, ageing, and packing.
  
• Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets with optimal utilization of presses, manpower, and utilities.
  
• Monitor press performance (uptime, yield, cycle time, recovery) and drive improvements.
  
• Coordinate with PPC for production planning, order prioritization, and dispatch schedules.
  

Process & Technical Excellence

• Optimize extrusion parameters such as temperature, pressure, speed, and cooling to achieve consistent profile quality.
  
• Troubleshoot extrusion defects (surface finish, die lines, bending, cracking, dimensional variation).
  
• Support new alloy development, complex profile extrusion, and new die trials.
  
• Collaborate with die shop for die correction, maintenance, and life improvement.
  

Quality Assurance

• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, IS/ASTM/DIN standards, and internal quality norms.
  
• Drive reduction in rejection, rework, and customer complaints.
  
• Coordinate with Quality team for root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  

Maintenance & Asset Reliability

• Work closely with Maintenance for preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of extrusion presses and downstream equipment.
  
• Ensure availability of critical spares and minimize unplanned downtime.
  

Cost Control & Productivity

• Monitor and control conversion cost, energy consumption, scrap, and yield loss.
  
• Drive productivity improvement initiatives such as cycle time reduction, OEE improvement, and manpower optimization.
  
• Participate in budget preparation and cost reduction projects.
  

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

• Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, statutory norms, and company EHS policies.
  
• Promote safe work practices, risk assessments, and incident-free operations.
  
• Support ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 systems and audits.
  

People Management & Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop production teams including Shift In-charges, Engineers, Supervisors, and Operators.
  
• Conduct training on process discipline, safety, quality, and continuous improvement tools.
  
• Drive performance management, discipline, and employee engagement on shop floor.
  

Continuous Improvement & Digitalization

• Implement Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma initiatives.
  
• Support automation, data tracking, and MIS reporting for production and efficiency metrics.
  

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Production achievement vs plan

• Conversion cost per MT
  
• Safety incidents (zero harm)

Preferred candidate profile

• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Production Engineering
  
• MBA / PG Diploma in Operations Management (preferred)
  

Experience

• 1520 years of experience in aluminium extrusion manufacturing
  
• Minimum 57 years in a senior production leadership role
  
• Hands-on experience with high-tonnage extrusion presses and complex profiles
  

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of various aluminium alloys .
  
• Expertise in extrusion process control, die management, and downstream operations
  
• Familiarity with ERP/MIS systems and production dashboards
  
• Understanding of quality systems and statutory compliance
