Development Manager – Machining

Key Responsibilities:

• RFQ Evaluation:

  Analyze RFQs for machined components and define preliminary machining strategy, cycle times, and cost estimates.

• Process Definition:

  Develop and document end-to-end machining processes for new parts, including operation sequences, machine selection (CNC/VMC/HMC), and workholding.

• Programming:

  Create, validate, and optimize programs for multi-axis VMCs and HMCs.

• Tooling & Fixturing:

  Select and define appropriate tools, cutting parameters, and fixtures for new development parts and production jobs.

• APQP/PPAP:

  Lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process and prepare full PPAP submissions, including process flow diagrams, FMEAs, control plans, and capability studies.

• Pilot Runs & Validation:

  Oversee trial production and first part approval (FAI), ensuring process stability and meeting quality standards.

• Cross-functional Leadership:

  Coordinate with design, production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and on-time delivery.

• Team Management:

  Lead and mentor a team of process engineers and CNC programmers; assign tasks and review output.

• Continuous Improvement:

  Drive improvements in machining cycle times, tool life, and process reliability.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/production engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in machining, with 2+ years in leadership role.
• Proven expertise in CNC, VMC, and HMC programming and machining strategies.
• Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and IATF 16949 requirements.
• Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, GD&T, and 3D models.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with automotive/aerospace component manufacturing.
• Exposure to Lean manufacturing, root cause analysis tools.
• Familiarity with ERP systems.
