3D Lighting & Rendering Artist (Contract)

The Role

As the Lighting & Rendering Artist, you will be responsible for lighting all shots to achieve a rich, cinematic, and emotionally impactful visual style. You will use light to shape the characters, define the mood, and guide the audience's eye.. You will also manage the rendering pipeline to produce the final frames for compositing.

Key Responsibilities

Establish and execute the lighting style for the project, following concept art and color scripts.
Create a lush, cinematic jungle atmosphere, using techniques to achieve dappled light, dramatic sunbeams, and rich bounce light.Light characters to enhance their form, emotional performance, and appeal.Ensure lighting continuity across all shots within a sequence.Set up render passes (e.g., beauty, shadow, ambient occlusion, specular) required for the compositing team.Optimize scenes to manage render times while maintaining the highest visual quality.Collaborate with compositors to ensure rendered layers integrate seamlessly.Troubleshoot and solve technical issues related to lighting and rendering.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Proven experience as a Lighting Artist in 3D animation or VFX.
A strong portfolio/demo reel that demonstrates a keen eye for color, composition, and cinematic lighting.Expertise with a production-grade renderer such as

Arnold

,

Cycles

, or

Redshift

.
Deep understanding of lighting principles (key, fill, rim), color theory, and shading.Experience setting up and rendering in layers/AOVs for a compositing pipeline.Portfolio must show examples of high-quality environmental and character lighting.

Bonus Skills

Experience with compositing in

Knowledge of a linear color workflow (ACES).Experience using

Unreal Engine 5

(Lumen) for look development or real-time previs.
Scripting knowledge for automating rendering tasks.
