Wire Harness Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Role Focus

• Architecture Definition:

  Define the overall

  Wire Harness Architecture

  for new vehicle platforms, optimizing segmentation, routing paths, and connection points for cost, weight, and manufacturing efficiency.

• Standardization:

  Develop and implement company-wide standards for harness component usage, design procedures, and testing protocols to ensure consistency and quality across all programs.

• Component Strategy:

  Drive the selection and standardization of connectors, terminals, and harness protection elements, influencing global sourcing and supplier strategies.

• Process Improvement:

  Lead initiatives to improve the harness design process, including leveraging advanced simulation tools and promoting modularity to simplify manufacturing (DFM).

• Technical Oversight:

  Provide technical guidance and oversight to Lead and Senior Engineers, reviewing complex designs and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and quality requirements.

Key Skills & Requirements

• Experience:

  8 to 12 years of extensive experience in automotive wire harness design, architecture definition, and release management.

• Deep Architecture Knowledge:

  Expert understanding of

  Vehicle Electrical Architecture

  , power distribution systems, grounding, and fusing strategies.

• Specification Development:

  Proven experience in developing and owning

  global harness specifications

  and design validation plans.

• Design Optimization:

  Demonstrated ability to drive significant cost and weight reduction in harness systems without compromising performance or quality.

• Simulation & Tools:

  Advanced proficiency in electrical design tools (e.g.,

  Mentor Graphics Capital

  suite) and experience

• Collaboration & Influence:

  Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and present complex technical issues to management.

• Quality Focus:

  Expert knowledge of robust engineering practices, including DFMEA, DVP&R, and failure analysis methodologies.
