Windows Fax/Printer Driver Engineer

• Engineer, develop and maintain Printer Device Drivers for Mono/Color Inkjet or Laser devices.
• Engineer, design, develop, test, and maintain Windows Printer/Fax drivers and related system components.
• Working experience with the Windows printing architecture including spooler services, rendering pipeline, and V4 driver model.
• Translate application graphics commands into a format printers understand (PCL, PS, PDF).
• Implement V4 Printer Driver model with rendering filters and customization of print class drivers (Unidrv/PScript).
• Integrate print pipeline with OS components such as Print Spooler, Print BRM, and XPS path.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to integrate drivers with new Printer/Fax models.
• Work with Printer/Fax firmware for job status, fault events, supply levels, duplex features, scanning and faxing.
• Debug kernel crashes, communication issues and analyze crash dumps using WinDbg.
• Support driver signing, HLK/WHQL certification and deployment through Windows Update.
• Maintain and update drivers for latest Windows releases and evolving hardware.
• Performance optimization in print throughput, power management, raster rendering and color accuracy.
• Participate in design reviews, CI pipelines and maintain documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented programming.
• Deep understanding of Windows OS internals, kernel mode programming and device driver model and Windows driver architecture
• Experience with WDM, UMDF and/or KMDF driver frameworks.
• Expertise in driver debugging using WinDbg and ETW.
• Proficiency with Visual Studio and version control (Git/SVN).
• Knowledge of Windows printing pipeline, GDI/XPS rendering workflows.
• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Lead development and integration of Printer/Fax drivers with cloud printing platforms (e.g., Universal Print, Google Cloud Print) and web applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with network Printer/Fax technologies (Ethernet, Wi-Fi).
• Understanding of communication and network protocols like TCP/IP, IPP, SNMP.
• Experience with hardware testing tools, protocol analyzers and USB traces.
• Familiarity with IPP Everywhere, Mopria certification and AirPrint.
