Job Description

Web Application Firewall (WAF) & Network Administrator

Key Responsibilities

  • Web Application Firewall (WAF) Management:

  • Design, implement, configure, and manage

    Web Application Firewalls (WAFs)

    (e.g., F5 BIG-IP ASM, Imperva, Cloudflare, Akamai) to protect web applications against common attacks (OWASP Top 10).
  • Develop, tune, and maintain

    WAF policies, rules, and signatures

    to detect and mitigate new and evolving threats.
  • Perform regular

    WAF log analysis

    to identify security incidents, false positives, and areas for policy refinement.
  • Collaborate with development and application teams to onboard new applications to WAF and ensure secure deployment.
  • Network Administration:

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot

    network devices

    including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Manage

    network routing and switching protocols

    (e.g., OSPF, BGP, VLANs, STP, HSRP/VRRP).
  • Implement and maintain

    VPNs (IPSec, SSL VPN)

    , network segmentation, and access controls.
  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and ensure high availability and optimal network health.
  • Perform network capacity planning and contribute to network architecture design.
  • Security & Troubleshooting:

  • Respond to and investigate

    security incidents

    related to WAF and network infrastructure.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and assist in penetration testing related to network and web application layers.
  • Provide expert-level

    troubleshooting

    for complex network and application security issues.
  • Documentation & Best Practices:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for WAF configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices and internal security policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in

    administering and managing Web Application Firewalls (WAFs)

    .
  • Strong hands-on experience in

    network administration

    , including configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • In-depth knowledge of

    TCP/IP, routing protocols, and switching protocols

    .
  • Solid understanding of

    web application security concepts

    (e.g., OWASP Top 10, common attack vectors).
  • Experience with

    network monitoring and analysis tools

    .
  • Excellent

    analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills

    .
  • Strong

    communication and collaboration skills

    to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Certifications such as

    CompTIA Security+, CCNA, CCNP Security, or relevant WAF vendor certifications

    .
  • Experience with

    cloud-based WAF solutions

    (e.g., Azure WAF, AWS WAF).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
  • Knowledge of intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
