Job Description

Job Summary:
We are looking for a WAF L2 Engineer with hands-on experience in Akamai Kona Site Defender to support, monitor, and optimize web application firewall operations. The role involves incident response, policy tuning, onboarding new applications, and collaborating with security and application teams to ensure strong protection against web threats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide L2 support for Akamai WAF (policy tuning, configuration, troubleshooting).
  • Monitor logs/alerts to detect and mitigate attacks.
  • Manage incidents and escalate to L3/vendor when needed.
  • Onboard new applications with proper ruleset design.
  • Collaborate with DevOps/security teams to optimize protection policies.
  • Perform RCA for recurring issues and support change management.
  • Maintain documentation, SOPs, and stay updated on OWASP Top 10/CVEs.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards.

Required Skills:

  • 4–7 years in Network/Application Security.
  • Strong hands-on Akamai WAF (Kona Site Defender) experience.
  • Knowledge of OWASP Top 10, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, DNS, TCP/IP.
  • Expertise in policy configuration, tuning, and custom rules.
  • Familiar with Akamai Control Center & APIs, CDN, caching, load balancing.
  • Strong troubleshooting & ITIL process knowledge.

Preferred:

  • Akamai WAF Certified Professional.
  • Experience with other WAFs (Cloudflare, AWS, F5, Imperva, FortiWeb).
  • Scripting/automation (Python, Shell, REST APIs).
  • Exposure to SIEM tools and advanced security (Bot Manager, API Security, DDoS).
